Revival Prayer Pointers

11 through 20

Week 11: The saying is that “Love makes the world go ‘round.”  That may or may not be true, but it is true that love is the foundational attribute of God’s people.  When we pursue the Revival Prayer Initiative this week, let’s be sure to tell Him that we love Him.  We might want to ask Him to reveal any areas of our lives that need to better reflect His love for us and our love for Him.  Pursuing revival will empower us to love God and others more.

Week 12: History reveals that revival has come to those who were hungry for it–hungry enough to pray diligently for it.  Let’s begin 2007 by checking on our hunger for God’s work in our presence.  This is a good week to ask God to show us our true appetites.  Do we want Him and His work in our lives more than we want anything else?  Consider Psalm 1:1-3 as you pray.

Week 13: Revival is always God’s work.  We can’t make it happen.  Paul, the Apostle, tells us in 2 Corinthians 3:5 about God’s sufficiency and our insufficiency.  Let’s think about the source of our sufficiency by meditating on this verse as we prepare to pray for revival this week.

Week 14: Sometimes our faith is weak.  We pray diligently, and it seems that nothing happens.  Begin your RPI time this week by thinking about Ps. 31:24.  The Psalmist says “Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart . . . .”  The revival pursuit is a marathon, not a sprint.  Ask God to give you faith and courage as you pursue revival.

Week 15: As we begin our prayer time this week, think about Psalm 119:58.  The psalmist says that he came before God with his “whole heart.”  The pursuit of revival/renewal requite “whole heart” focus.  Half-hearted efforts are wasted efforts.  Let’s ask God this week to reveal any division of our hearts that might hinder our prayer for revival.

Week 16: Ps. 119:58 showed us last week that the psalmist sought the Lord with his “whole heart.”  In vs. 59, he says “I thought about my ways. . . .”  Take part of your RPI time to think about your ways.  Our ways must be in tune with God’s ways for revival and renewal to come to us.  God’s Spirit may want to show us olds ways to forego and new ways to pursue.

Week 17: Continuing in Ps. 119:58&59, the psalmist, after thinking on his ways, says  I turned my feet to your testimonies. I made haste, and did not delay to keep your commandments. Revival and renewal will always lead to fresh directions and greater levels of obedience.  How may God want us to “turn our feet” in our pursuit of revival?  Think about that as you pray for revival this week.

Week 18:

Week 19: Just as Jesus began to teach the disciples how to pray, he said to them “For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” (Mt. 6:8) Our Father knows just what we need for revival and renewal in our lives.  We would do well this week to ask our Father, as part of our Revival Prayer Initiative praying, to show us what needs exist in our lives that only He can meet.  Ask Him, and then be still and listen for His answer.

Week 20: We began the Lenten season last Wednesday night.  It isn’t something commonly observed in evangelical churches, but is a time from which we can benefit.  It is a time of acknowledging our sinfulness and preparing for the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection.  Here’s a simple question to ask as we being our prayer time this week that flows from observing the Lenten season: “Where in my life do I need to acknowledge my humanness and renounce my sinfulness?”  Give God’s Spirit time to answer the question.
