141 through 150
Week 141: The psalmist reminded his readers to “Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face evermore.” (Ps. 105:4) That’s what we do when we pray for revival. We continually come before Him to seek His strength and His presence in our church and in our lives. The seeking flows from our desire for God’s work and our need for God’s work. Let’s spend some time this week seeking His strength and His face for our lives and our church.
Week 142: Perseverance is a key quality of strong Christians. In Ps. 40:1&2, the psalmist tells us that he “waited patiently for the Lord.” Ultimately the Lord met with him and the psalmist says God “set my feet upon a rock” and “put a new song in my mouth.” We don’t know how long he waited. We do know God showed up and blessed him. Pray with confidence this week. God hears our prayers for revival, and He will show up!
Week 143: Ultimately, revival and renewal are about God and His glory. The psalmist affirmed that when he prayed “not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! (Ps. 115:1) Part of revival is a refocusing of our lives and energy on God and a new desire for His glory. Let’s pray for that reorientation this week!
Week 144: Colossians 3:1-3 helps us put revival in perspective. When revival arrives in our lives, we set our focus on things that have eternal value. The apostle tells us that we fix our minds on things that are above (in heaven) because we have died with Christ and our lives are hidden with Him in God. Is it possible that we don’t know revival because we allow that which is supposed to be dead to rule our lives? Perhaps we need to pray that God will remind us that we are dead to the things of this world.
Week 145: Our thought from the Scriptures this morning comes from Paul Peschell’s Bible. He underlined and checked Psalm 86:3-7. Take time to read them before you pray for revival this week. They reflect the heart of one who desperately needs to see God’s work in his or her life. The verses conclude with the promise that God will answer: In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou will answer me.
Week 146: Part of the pursuit of revival/renewal involves remaining faithful while you wait on God. Solomon said in Proverbs 10:17 that “He who keeps instruction is in the way of life . . .” As we pray for revival, it is necessary that we live in obedience to God’s Word, remaining faithful to God’s teaching. It might be good for us this week to examine our lives before we pray for God’s gracious work of revival.
Week 147: Unconfessed in is the major roadblock to revival in the church and in our lives. Let’s choose this week to ask God’s Spirit to reveal any sin that’s in our lives with the willingness to confess and repent as God makes our sins known to us. As we confess and repent, we’ll discover new freedom and passion to pray for God’s work in our church. Be sure to read 1 John 1:9 & 10 prior to praying.
Week 148: How hungry are we for God’s presence and power in our lives? That question comes to mind as we read of the psalmists’ passion for God’s work in his life. In Psalm 25:4&5 he expresses his longing for the Lord and concludes with these words: On You I wait all the day. Surely we can wait faithfully for His work in our lives by praying and waiting consistently . . . no matter how long it takes!
Week 149: The disciples couldn’t understand why they weren’t successful in casting out demons when Jesus ruled over the demons with great power. He explained their lack of success with these words: This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting. (Mk. 9:29) Praying for revival is “total commitment” praying. Give thought to what is possible through prayer before you pray this week. Take time to read Mark 9:14-29. Then pray with renewed confidence.
Week 150: One component of revival is a restoration of God’s presence and blessing in our lives. Three times in Psalm 80 Asaph prayed “Restore us, O God.” Perhaps we need to read that psalm and ask God to show us those places in our lives that need restoring. Let’s ask Him this week to make us hungry for His restoring work in our lives.
