Revival Prayer Pointers

91 through 100

Week 91: The goal of revival is to see Gods’ renewed favor and blessing upon our lives.  The need for revival implies that we’ve somehow lost that favor and blessing.  The psalmist understood that implication when he prayed three times in Psalm 80 “Restore us, O God: cause Your face to shine and we shall be saved!”  In that same psalm, he also prays “Revive us, and we will call upon your name.”  Let’s pray as the psalmist prayed this week!

Week 92: We can wonder if revival/renewal will ever come our way unless we seek it passionately.  Ultimately, revival is a sovereign act of God.  It often comes, however, to those who want it passionately.   They passionately pursue it because they know they desperately need it.  Consider Psalm 105:4 prior to praying for revival this week.  “Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face evermore!”  Does God see consistent, passionate seeking for revival when He looks upon The First Family?

Week 93: The pursuit of revival is always a prayer effort.  That may not be all that is involved, but revival never comes without focused prayer.  The Apostle James says, “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”  (5:16b) The key to this kind of praying is the condition of the heart of the one who prays.  Let’s ask God to help us examine our hearts before we pray this week.  If we are hungry for revival, then we want God to work in our hearts.

Week 94: Think with me about 1 John 5:4 this week.  “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.  And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”  Praying for revival is an important ministry.  We can’t lose sight, however, of how important faith is in that prayer effort.  Perhaps part of our prayer for revival this week should be to ask God to strengthen our faith.  Faith really is the victory!

Week 95: God often burdens us to pray for something and chooses to answer the prayer later rather than sooner.  The Apostle Paul urged us not to lose heart.  In 2 Corinthians 4:16 he reminds us that even when things seem very difficult, God is at work renewing us in the inner man.  Don’t lose heart as you pursue the Revival Prayer Initiative this week.

Week 96: Living outside revival is like living in prison of our own making.  The psalmist understood something of that prison when he wrote Ps. 142:7.  He asked God to bring him out of prison.  He had a specific reason for asking: he wanted to praise God’s name.  Let’s ask God to help us know whether or not we’re in a prison brought on by a lack of revival.  And remember that He can give us freedom!

Week 97: We have great need of grace.  As individuals and as a church family, we need grace to pursue revival and to live in ways that will bring that revival.  The world had become a wicked place by Genesis 6, but one man and his family found grace. (Gen. 6:8)  As we pray for revival this week, let’s reflect on our great need of grace and the God who gives that grace.  Perhaps we, too, will find grace.

Prayer Pointer #98: What is your temperature?  The Apostle John saw the last of the seven church in Revelation—Laodicea—as lukewarm.  It was neither hot nor cold.  If you read of the church in Revelation 3, you will discover that God doesn’t care for lukewarm.  Perhaps a case of “lukewarmness” hinders our prayers for revival and renewal at FBC.  Let’s ask God to reveal our true temperature as we pray this week.

Prayer Pointer #99: The pursuit of revival is an expression of hunger.  It is seeking that which we know is missing in our lives with God.  The prophet Amos gave us God’s words that remind us of the object of our seeking.  Read Amos 6:4&6.  Real life—life as God intended it—comes when we seek Him with all our hearts.  Let’s consider the quality of our seeking as we ask the Lord to revive us this week.

Prayer Pointer #100: Many in our family have prayed for revival at FBC for 100 weeks; that’s almost two years!  Consider the words of Jacob in Genesis 32:26.  Jacob wrestled with God through the night, and he said to God, “I will not let you go unless you bless me!”  God honors persistent prayer.  Don’t let go—don’t quit praying—until God sends revival and renewal to FBC!
